Liquid crystal display unit and electronic apparatus provided with the liquid crystal display unit

Abstract

The present invention concerns a liquid crystal display for an electronic apparatus having a display window and a circuit substrate. The display may include a planar display surface facing a display window and extending along a first direction, and a convex display surface curved so as to define an outermost edge of the display. The display may also include a pattern wiring area extends from the curved display portion along a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction and is electrically connected to the circuit substrate.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A liquid crystal display unit, comprising: 
 a display portion;    a pattern wiring area disposed around a periphery of the display portion; and    an edge portion including a part of the pattern wiring area being disposed to be positioned in a direction different from the display portion.    
     
     
         2 . The liquid crystal display unit as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the edge portion is a supporting member for the display portion.  
     
     
         3 . The liquid crystal display unit as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the edge portion is adjacent to an end of a character displayed on the display portion.  
     
     
         4 . The liquid crystal display unit as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the display portion and the pattern wiring area are being formed of a film.  
     
     
         5 . The liquid crystal display unit as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the display portion and the pattern wiring area are being formed of a resin molding.  
     
     
         6 . The liquid crystal display unit as recited in  claim 1 , further comprising a casing having a side wall being engaged with the edge portion.  
     
     
         7 . An electronic apparatus including a liquid crystal display unit comprising: 
 a display portion;    a pattern wiring are a disposed around a periphery of the display portion; and    an edge portion including a part of the pattern wiring area being disposed to be positioned in a direction different from the display portion.    
     
     
         8 . The electronic apparatus as recited in  claim 7  wherein the edge portion is a supporting member for the display portion.  
     
     
         9 . The electronic apparatus as recited in  claim 7  wherein the edge portion is adjacent to an end of a character displayed on the display portion.  
     
     
         10 . The electronic apparatus as recited in  claim 7  wherein the display portion and the pattern wiring area are being formed of a film.  
     
     
         11 . The electronic apparatus as recited in  claim 7  wherein the display portion and the pattern wiring area are being formed of a resin molding.  
     
     
         12 . The electronic apparatus as recited in  claim 7  further comprising a casing having a side wall being engaged with the edge portion.  
     
     
         13 . A liquid crystal display unit, comprising: 
 a display portion;    a pattern wiring area disposed around a periphery of the display portion; and    an edge portion including the pattern wiring area being bent so that the display unit is being formed into a predetermined shape.    
     
     
         14 . The liquid crystal display unit as recited in  claim 13 , wherein the edge portion including a part of the pattern wiring area being bent downward vertically relative to a certain part of the display portion extending in a horizontal direction.  
     
     
         15 . The liquid crystal display unit as recited in  claim 13 , wherein the edge portion is a supporting member for the display portion.  
     
     
         16 . The liquid crystal display unit as recited in  claim 13 , wherein the edge portion is adjacent to an end of a character displayed on the display portion.  
     
     
         17 . The liquid crystal display unit as recited in  claim 13 , wherein the display portion and the pattern wiring area are being formed of a film.  
     
     
         18 . The liquid crystal display unit as recited in  claim 13 , wherein the display portion and the pattern wiring area are being formed of a resin molding.  
     
     
         19 . The liquid crystal display unit as recited in  claim 13 , further comprising a casing having a side wall being engaged with the edge portion.  
     
     
         20 . A liquid crystal display installed into an electronic apparatus having a display window and a circuit substrate comprising: 
 a display portion having two horizontal faces, being able to display a character to be positioned to face the display window;    a pattern wiring area disposed around a periphery of the display portion, electrically connected with a flexible substrate, the flexible substrate having a LCD driver and a substrate connection portion, to be turned toward the rear face of the display portion and to be connected with the circuit substrate; and    an edge portion including a part of the pattern wiring area being bent downward vertically relative to a certain part of the display portion extending in the horizontal direction.
