Abstract

Fly fishing rod with detachable reel seat and reel that the fisherman can carry, whenever he chooses to, on a specially designed support attached to his waist. The invention allows the fisherman to cast with a rod that is free from the weight of the reel, by far the heaviest part of a fly fishing rod. The invention can be used with a rod for which it has been specifically designed; this rod includes a device that allows the reel seat to be detached from the handgrip instead of being permanently fixed thereon. The invention can also be used with any existing fly fishing rod by means of a device that permits the installation of an additional, movable reel seat. The waist holder required to hold the reel seat and the reel can be attached to a belt, a life jacket or a fishing vest.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

         1 ) A fly fishing rod comprising a reel seat holding device which is designed such that the reel seat with the attaching reel be easily detached or reattached from and to its place behind the rod hand grip in the rod shaft prolongation, whenever the fisherman wishes to do so;

         2 ) A fly fishing rod, according to  claim 1 , that includes a reel seat holding device on the rod shaft prolongation behind the hand grip, which has at each end of this prolongation two circular resilient bushings designed such that the cylindrical reel seat base, once inserted onto this prolongation, is sufficiently tight-fitting to stay in place, and at the same time can also be easily detached therefrom, whenever the fisherman wishes to do so;

         3 ) A device for holding an additional, movable reel seat on a conventional fly fishing rod, comprising a case to hold the reel seat, a foot for attaching the case to the fishing rod, and a mechanism allowing the additional, movable reel seat to be held inside the case and also making it possible to easily detach it therefrom, whenever the fisherman wishes to do so;

         4 ) A device, according to  claim 3 , that includes a hollow cylinder having an opening into which the fisherman can insert and laterally slide into place a reel seat and a reel, both of which, once inserted, are held in place in the body of the cylinder by the pressure exerted by a spring at the bottom of the cylinder on the foot of the reel, which must for that purpose be inserted into a slot located on the lower side of the cylinder, and both of which can be removed from the cylinder by disengaging the holding mechanism, the said cylinder being attached to the reel seat at the reel's normal place on the fishing rod by means of a mounting foot attached to the top part of the cylinder;

         5 ) A support on the waist of the fisherman for holding a reel seat detached from the fly fishing rod, comprising a base into which the belt of the fisherman slides, a case attached to this base and designed to hold the reel seat coming from the rod from which it has been temporarily detached, and a mechanism allowing the reel seat to be held inside the case and to be removed therefrom and returned to the rod, whenever the fisherman wishes to do so;

         6 ) A waist holder, according to  claim 5 , that includes a hollow cylinder with a mechanism for holding the reel seat, both of which are described in  claim 4 , this cylinder being laterally attached to the base of the support of which the outer surface has a groove in the form of a semi-circle throughout its length, intended to hold the cylinder, the said base having an inner surface which is rounded to adjust to the fisherman's waist and having also a slot, also rounded to make it possible for the support to slide onto the fisherman's belt, running across the length of the whole base, the said cylinder having on the lower side of its front opening a laterally-opening eyelet allowing the fisherman to guide the fishing line towards the rod when the reel seat is attached to the waist holder;

         7 ) A device, according to claim 5 , for holding a reel seat detached from the fly fishing rod on a fisherman's life jacket or fishing vest, including the waist holder described in claim 6 , which is attached to the bottom on the side of the vest from which the fisherman holds his fishing rod by means of a narrow rigid band having a form, width and length corresponding to the form, width and length, of the section of the belt required for installing the waist holder according to claim 6 , this band being attached at each end to the vest by two bolts that go through the material of the vest and are held in place by two nuts against a rigid plate.
