Recording medium containing moving picture data and additional information thereof and reproducing method and apparatus of the recording medium

Abstract

The present invention relates to a recording medium containing moving picture data and additional information thereof and to reproducing method and apparatus of the recording medium. The present recording medium has script files including additional information about moving picture data, e.g., scene descriptive text and introduction of characters, etc. In addition, information linking each script file with a section of moving picture data to be presented with contents of the script file is included in a link data file or is contained in a filename of the script file. In reproduction of the recording medium, a script file linked with presently reproduced moving picture data section is determined and searched for based on the link data file or every filename of the script files, and contents of the found script file are presented together with the presently reproduced moving picture data. Furthermore, previously presented additional information is removed depending on data or filename of the found script file.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A recording medium, comprising: 
 moving picture data; and    additional information, written in the form of file, related with said moving picture data, wherein at least one among the additional information files includes information indicating that there is no additional information about a related section of moving picture data.    
     
     
         2 . The recording medium of  claim 1 , wherein said at least one file contains null data to indicate that there is no additional information about a related section of moving picture data.  
     
     
         3 . The recording medium of  claim 1 , wherein said at least one file includes, in filename thereof, a special code indicating that there is no additional information about a related section of moving picture data.  
     
     
         4 . The recording medium of  claim 1 , wherein link information linking said additional information files with said moving picture data is written in the same area where said additional information is written.  
     
     
         5 . The recording medium of  claim 4 , wherein said link information links a recording address of an additional information file with an address of a start video object unit of moving picture data section to be presented together with contents of the additional information file.  
     
     
         6 . The recording medium of  claim 4 , wherein said link information links a filename of an additional information file with an address of a start video object unit of moving picture data section to be presented together with contents of the additional information file.  
     
     
         7 . The recording medium of  claim 4 , wherein said link information file is associated one-to-one with program chain information which specifies a program section of the moving picture data and has reproduction-controlling information for the program section.  
     
     
         8 . The recording medium of  claim 7 , wherein said program chain information includes a flag indicative of whether there is additional information associated with the program section or not.  
     
     
         9 . The recording medium of  claim 8 , wherein said flag is 1-bit long and is allocated in a program chain content field of said program chain information.  
     
     
         10 . The recording medium of  claim 1 , wherein said additional information file is named with an address of a start video object unit of a section of moving picture data to be presented together with contents of said additional information file.  
     
     
         11 . A method of reproducing a recording medium, comprising the steps of: 
 (a) reproducing moving picture data written on the recording medium;    (b) obtaining an address of presently reproduced section of moving picture data, choosing a file, specified to have additional information about moving picture data, associated with the obtained address, and searching for the chosen file;    (c)determining, based on data contained in or filename of the found file, whether or not the presently reproduced section has related additional information; and    (d) removing previously presented additional information, if any, based on the determination result.    
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein said step (c) determines that the presently reproduced section has no related additional information if a filename of the found file includes a special code indicating that there is no additional information about a related section of moving picture data.  
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein said step (c) determines that the presently reproduced section has no related additional information if the found file includes only null data.  
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein said step (b) chooses a file associated with the obtained address using link information linking an address of data with a recording address of a file having additional information about moving picture data.  
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein said step (b) chooses the file associated with the obtained address using link information linking an address of data with a filename of file having additional information about moving picture data.  
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein said step (b) chooses a file named with an address equal to or closest to and smaller than the obtained address.  
     
     
         17 . An apparatus of reproducing a recording medium, comprising: 
 a data pickup reading moving picture data and files containing additional information about the moving picture data from the recording medium;    a data processor decoding the moving picture data read by said data pickup; and    a controller obtaining an address of the moving picture data decoded by said data processor, choosing a file, specified to have additional information about the moving picture data, associated with the obtained address, and determining, based on data contained in or filename of the chosen file, whether or not the moving picture data decoded by the data processor has related additional information.    
     
     
         18 . The apparatus of  claim 17 , wherein said controller controls said data processor to remove previously presented additional information, if any, when it is determined that the moving picture data decoded by the data processor has no related additional information.
