Claims

Abstract

An antitumor combination containing a stilbene derivative and an anticancer compound chosen from taxanes, alkylating agents, antimetabolites, vinca alkaloids, epidophylloptoxins, and antibiotics as the active ingredients is provided. There are also provided methods of using these pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of solid carcinomas and the like.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising a stilbene derivative and a compound selected from the group consisting of taxanes, vinca alkaloids, alkylating agents, antimetabolites, epidophylloptoxins, and antibiotics.  
     
     
         2 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the stilbene derivative is a combretastatin.  
     
     
         3 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of an anticancer compound in combination with an effective amount of combretastatin for the treatment of solid tumors, wherein said combretastatin has the following formula IIA:  
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
     
     
         4 . The composition according to  claim 3 , wherein said anticancer compound is taxotere.  
     
     
         5 . The composition according to  claim 3 , wherein said anticancer compound is doxorubicin.  
     
     
         6 . The composition according to  claim 3 , wherein said anticancer compound is vincristine.  
     
     
         7 . The composition according to  claim 3 , wherein said anticancer compound is an antimetabolite.  
     
     
         8 . The composition according to  claim 3 , wherein said anticancer compound is an alkylating agent.  
     
     
         9 . A method of treating solid tumors comprising administering sequentially an effective amount of taxotere in combination with an effective amount of combretastatin as claimed in claim  3 .
