Abstract

A reproducing method is disclosed, that comprises the steps of determining whether or not additional data has been read from data that had been read from a loaded record medium, and when the determined result represents that the additional data has been read from the data, performing a reproducing process for the data that had been read from the record medium corresponding to reward data contained in the additional data.

1 . A reproducing method, comprising the steps of: 
 determining whether or not additional data has been read from data that had been read from a loaded record medium; and    when the determined result represents that the additional data has been read from the data, performing a reproducing process for the data that had been read from the record medium corresponding to reward data contained in the additional data.    
     
     
         2 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 1 , 
 wherein the additional data is added as electronic watermark information to the data.    
     
     
         3 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 2 , 
 wherein the additional data further contains copyright data for controlling an output of the data that had been read from the medium.    
     
     
         4 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 1 , further comprising the steps of: 
 determining whether or not the additional data has been correctly read; and    when the additional data has been correctly read, performing a reproducing process corresponding to the reward data.    
     
     
         5 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 4 , further comprising the steps of: 
 determining the type of the loaded record medium; and    when the determined result represents that the loaded record medium is a non-recordable record medium, determining whether or not the additional data has been correctly read.    
     
     
         6 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 5 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the additional data has been correctly read, performing a charging discounting process in the reproducing process corresponding to the reward data.    
     
     
         7 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 5 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the additional data has not been correctly read, performing a reproducing process not corresponding to the reward data.    
     
     
         8 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 7 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the additional data has not been correctly read, not performing a charging discounting process in the reproducing process corresponding to the reward data.    
     
     
         9 . The reproducing method as set forth in claim  6 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the charging process cannot be performed in the reproducing process, terminating the reproducing process.    
     
     
         10 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 5 , further comprising the steps of: 
 when the determined result represents that the loaded record medium is a non-recordable record medium, determining whether or not the data that had been read from the medium has been decrypted; and    when the determined result represents that the data has been decrypted, determining whether or not the additional data has been correctly read.    
     
     
         11 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 10 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the data has not been decrypted, terminating the reproducing process.    
     
     
         12 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 1 , further comprising the steps of: 
 determining the type of the loaded record medium;    when the determined result represents that the loaded record medium is a recordable record medium, determining whether or not the additional data is unconformable; and    when the determined result represents that the additional data is unconformable, terminating the reproducing process.    
     
     
         13 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 12 , 
 wherein the additional data is copyright data.    
     
     
         14 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 13 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the loaded record medium is a recordable record medium, if the copyright data represents a condition of which a copying operation is permitted, determining that the additional data is unconformable.    
     
     
         15 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 12 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the additional data is not unconformable, performing a reproducing process corresponding to the reward data.    
     
     
         16 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 15 , further comprising the step of: 
 performing a charging discounting process in the reproducing process corresponding to the reward data.    
     
     
         17 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 16 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the charging process cannot be performed in the reproducing process, terminating the reproducing process.    
     
     
         18 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 1 , further comprising the step of: 
 reading service information from the record medium corresponding to the reward data and reproducing the service information.    
     
     
         19 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 1 , further comprising the step of: 
 connecting a provider through a network corresponding to the reward data and performing a storing process for a service coupon.    
     
     
         20 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 1 , 
 wherein the additional data is advertisement data.    
     
     
         21 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 20 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the advertisement data is reproduced, extracting the reward data from the advertisement data and storing the extracted reward data.    
     
     
         22 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 21 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the data that has been read from the record medium is reproduced, determining whether or not the advertisement data had been reproduced.    
     
     
         23 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 22 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the advertisement data had been reproduced, reading the stored reward data and performing a charging discounting process in the reproducing process corresponding to the reward data.    
     
     
         24 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 23 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the charging process cannot be performed in the reproducing process, terminating the reproducing process.    
     
     
         25 . The reproducing method as set forth in  claim 24 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the advertisement data had not been reproduced, performing a reproducing process not corresponding to the reward data.    
     
     
         26 . A data outputting method, comprising the steps of: 
 when data is output, the data being read from a loaded record medium, additional data being added to the data, determining whether or not an output destination apparatus to which the data is output is an apparatus that satisfies a predetermined condition;    when the determined result represents that the output destination apparatus is an apparatus that satisfies the predetermined condition, determining whether or not the output destination apparatus is a recording apparatus;    when the determined result represents that the output destination apparatus is a recoding apparatus, encrypting the data that has been read from the record medium, outputting the encrypted data, and also outputting an encryption key for decrypting the encrypted data that has been read from the record medium.    
     
     
         27 . The data outputting method as set forth in  claim 26 , 
 wherein the output destination apparatus determining step is performed by determining whether or not the output destination apparatus is an apparatus corresponding to IEEE 1349 interface.    
     
     
         28 . The data outputting method as set forth in  claim 27 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the output destination apparatus is an apparatus not corresponding to the IEEE 1394 interface, encrypting the data that has been read from the record medium and outputting the encrypted data without an encryption key for decrypting the encrypted data.    
     
     
         29 . The data outputting method as set forth in  claim 27 , further comprising the step of: 
 when the determined result represents that the output destination apparatus is not a recording apparatus, encrypting the data that has been read from the record medium and outputting the encrypted data without an encryption key for decrypting the encrypted data.    
     
     
         30 . The data outputting method as set forth in  claim 27 , further comprising the steps of: 
 when the determined result represents that the output destination apparatus is a recording apparatus, interpreting the additional data added to the data that has been read from the record medium; and    when the interpreted additional data represents that a recording operation is prohibited, encrypting the data that has been read from the record medium and outputting the encrypted data without an encryption key for decrypting the encrypted data.    
     
     
         31 . The data outputting method as set forth in  claim 27 , further comprising the steps of: 
 when the determined result represents that the output destination apparatus is a recording apparatus, interpreting the additional data added to the data that has been read from the record medium; and    when the interpreted addition data represents that a recording operation is permitted, encrypting the data that has been read from the record medium and outputting the encrypted data with an encryption key for decrypting the encrypted data.    
     
     
         32 . A recording method, comprising the steps of: 
 when data to which additional data has been added is recorded, detecting whether or not the additional data has been detected from the data to be recorded; and    when the additional data has been detected, recording the data with the original quality.    
     
     
         33 . The recording method as set forth in  claim 32 , 
 when the additional data has not been detected, recoding the data with a low quality to the record medium.    
     
     
         34 . The recording method as set forth in  claim 33 , 
 wherein the recoding step is performed by converting low order bits of the data to all zeros and recording the resultant data to the record medium.    
     
     
         35 . The recording method as set forth in  claim 32 , further comprising the steps of: 
 interpreting the detected additional data; and    when the interpreted additional data represents that a recording operation is permitted, recording the data to the record medium.    
     
     
         36 . The recording method as set forth in  claim 35 , further comprising the steps of: 
 interpreting the detected additional data; and    when the interpreted additional data represents that a recording operation is prohibited, terminating the recording operation for the data to the record medium.    
     
     
         37 . The recording method as set forth in  claim 35 , 
 wherein the additional data contains copyright data.    
     
     
         38 . The recording method as set forth in  claim 37 , 
 wherein the additional data has been embedded as electronic watermark information to the data.    
     
     
         39 . The recording method as set forth in  claim 32 , further comprising the steps of: 
 determining the type of the data; and    when the determined result represents that the data is analog data, determining whether or not the additional data added to the analog data has been detected.    
     
     
         40 . The recording method as set forth in  claim 32 , further comprising the steps of: 
 determining the type of the data; and    when the determined result represents that the data is digital data, determining whether or not the additional data added to the digital data has been detected.    
     
     
         41 . A recording apparatus for a record medium, comprising: 
 additional data detecting portion for detecting additional data added to input data;    a selecting circuit portion for selecting the quality of the input data;    an encoder for performing an encoding process for causing output data of the selecting circuit to be recorded;    a head portion to which output data of the encoder is supplied; and    a controlling portion to which a detected output of the additional data detecting portion is supplied, when the additional data has been detected by the additional data detecting portion, the controlling portion causing the selecting circuit portion to output data with the same quality as the input data.    
     
     
         42 . The recording apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 41 , 
 wherein when the additional data detecting portion has not detected the additional data, the controlling portion causes the selecting circuit portion to output data with a lower quality than the input data.    
     
     
         43 . The recording apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 41 , 
 wherein the selecting circuit portion has: 
 a buffer memory for buffering the input data;  
 a selector for selecting low order bit data of the output data of the buffer memory or zero data corresponding to a control signal that is output from the controlling portion and outputting the selected data; and  
 a combining portion for combining high order bit data of the output data of the buffer memory and the output data of the selector.  
   
     
     
         44 . The recording apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 43 , 
 wherein the selecting circuit portion has a data generating portion for generating the zero data.    
     
     
         45 . The recording apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 43 , 
 wherein the additional data has been embedded as electronic watermark information to the input data, and    wherein the additional data detecting portion detects the electronic watermark information from the input data.    
     
     
         46 . The recording apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 41 , 
 wherein the additional data contains copyright data, and    wherein the encoder has an additional circuit portion for rewriting the copyright data of the output data of the selecting circuit portion.    
     
     
         47 . The recording apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 46 , 
 wherein when the copyright data is data that represents a recordable state, the additional circuit portion rewrites the copyright data to a state that represents that a recording operation is prohibited.    
     
     
         48 . A reproducing apparatus for a record medium, comprising: 
 an advertisement data obtaining portion for obtaining advertisement data from data that has been read from the record medium;    a reward data extracting portion for extracting reward data from the advertisement data obtaining portion;    a decoding portion for performing a decoding process for the data that has been read from the record medium;    an operating portion operated by a user; and    a controlling portion for determining whether or not the operating portion has been operated by the user and the advertisement data has been reproduced and reproducing the data that has been read from the record medium corresponding to the reward data extracted by the reward data extracting portion when the determined result represents that the advertisement data has been reproduced.    
     
     
         49 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 48 , 
 wherein the controlling portion has a storing portion for storing the reward data extracted by the reward data extracting portion.    
     
     
         50 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 49 , 
 wherein when the determined result of the controlling portion represents that the advertisement data has been reproduced, the controlling portion reads the reward data stored in the storing portion and performs a charging discounting process in the reproducing process corresponding to the reward data that has been read.    
     
     
         51 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 50 , 
 wherein when the determined result of the controlling portion represents that the charging process cannot be performed in the reproducing process, the controlling portions terminates the reproducing process.    
     
     
         52 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 50 , further comprising: 
 a charging processing portion for performing the charging process.    
     
     
         53 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 52 , 
 wherein the charging processing portion has a card reader for reading a prepaid card.    
     
     
         54 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 48 , 
 wherein when the advertisement data has not been reproduced and the data has been reproduced from the record medium, the controlling portion performs a reproducing operation not corresponding to the reward data extracted by the reward data extracting portion.    
     
     
         55 . A reproducing apparatus for a record medium, comprising: 
 a decoding processing portion for performing a decoding process for data that has been read from a record medium;    an additional data detecting portion for detecting whether or not additional data has been detected from the data that had been read from the record medium; and    a controlling portion for performing a reproducing operation for the data that had been read from the record medium corresponding to the detected additional data when the detected result of the additional data detecting portion represents that the additional data has been detected from the data that had been read from the record medium.    
     
     
         56 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 55 , further comprising: 
 an additional data decoding portion to which output data of the additional data detecting portion is supplied,    wherein the output data of the additional data decoding portion is supplied to the controlling portion.    
     
     
         57 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 56 , 
 wherein the controlling portion performs a reproducing operation corresponding to the additional data that is output data of the additional data decoding portion.    
     
     
         58 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 57 , 
 wherein the additional data contains reward data, and    wherein the controlling portion performs a reproducing operation corresponding to the reward data of the additional data.    
     
     
         59 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 57 , 
 wherein the controlling portion performs a charging discounting process in the reproducing process corresponding to the reward data.    
     
     
         60 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 59 , 
 wherein when the determined result of the controlling portion represents that the charging process cannot be performed in the reproducing process, the controlling portion terminates the reproducing process.    
     
     
         61 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 59 , further comprising: 
 a charging processing portion for performing the charging process.    
     
     
         62 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 61 , 
 wherein the charging processing portion has a card reader for reading a prepaid card.    
     
     
         63 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 55 , 
 wherein when the additional data detecting portion has not detected the additional data, the controlling portion performs a reproducing operation not corresponding to the additional data.    
     
     
         64 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 55 , further comprising: 
 a determining portion for determining the type of the record medium,    wherein the determined result of the determining portion is supplied to the controlling portion.    
     
     
         65 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 64 , 
 wherein when the determined result of the determining portion represents that the record medium is a recordable record medium, the controlling portion determines whether or not the additional data detected by the additional data detecting portion is conformable.    
     
     
         66 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 65 , 
 when the determined result of the determined portion represents that the detected additional data is unconformable, the controlling portions terminates the reproducing operation for the data that has been read from the record medium.    
     
     
         67 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 64 , 
 wherein when the additional data detecting portion has not detected the additional data, the controlling portion performs a reproducing operation not corresponding to the additional data.    
     
     
         68 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 66 , 
 wherein the additional data is copyright data.    
     
     
         69 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 64 , 
 wherein the decoder has a decrypting portion for decrypting encrypted data that has been read from the record medium, and    wherein when the determined result of the determining portion represents that the record medium is a reproduction only record medium, the controlling portion reads data of an encryption key from the record medium, supplies the encryption key to the decrypting portion, and causes the decrypting portion to decrypt the encrypted data.    
     
     
         70 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 69 , 
 wherein when the decrypting portion has not decrypted the encrypted data, the controlling portion terminates the reproducing operation for the data.    
     
     
         71 . The reproducing apparatus for the record medium as set forth in  claim 69 , 
 wherein when the decrypting portion has decrypted the encrypted data, the controlling portion determines whether or not the additional data has been detected corresponding to an output of the additional data detecting portion.    
     
     
         72 . A record medium on which content data and additional data containing reward data added to the content data have been recorded.  
     
     
         73 . The record medium as set forth in claim  72 , 
 wherein the additional data further contains copyright data about the copyright of the content data.    
     
     
         74 . The record medium as set forth in claim  72 , 
 wherein the additional data contains data about a discount rate of a charging process performed when the content data is reproduced.
