Resilient magnetic paintbrush holder

Abstract

In a paintbrush holder of a type that includes a clamp for attaching the holder to the rim of a paint can and that includes a magnet mounted on a rigid bracket that extends from the clamp for magnetically engaging the ferrule of a paintbrush so as to hold the paintbrush in an upright position within the mouth of the paint can, the improvement of replacing the rigid bracket by a resilient member that greatly reduces the acceleration to which the paintbrush is subjected when the paint can is abruptly set down, so as to prevent the paintbrush from being jarred loose from the magnet and falling into the paint.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A holder, attachable to a paint can having an open end defined by a rim, for supporting a paintbrush having a ferrule within the open end of the paint can, said holder comprising: 
 a clamp for engaging the rim of the paint can;    a magnet for engaging the ferrule of the paintbrush; and,    a resilient member having a first portion attached to said clamp and having a second portion attached to said magnet.    
     
     
         2 . The holder of  claim 1  wherein said resilient member is a spring.  
     
     
         3 . The holder of  claim 1  wherein said resilient member is a length of a resilient material.  
     
     
         4 . In a magnetic paintbrush holder of a type having a clamp for fastening the holder to the rim of a paint can and having a magnet connected to the clamp for magnetically engaging the ferrule of a paintbrush, the improvement comprising: 
 a resilient member connecting the clamp and the magnet.    
     
     
         5 . The improvement of  claim 3  wherein said resilient member is a spring.  
     
     
         6 . The improvement of  claim 3  wherein said resilient member is a length of a resilient material.
