Abstract

The invention provides a system capable of printing in a simple manner by detecting the connection of a printer and shifting to a print mode in response to the detection of the printer.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A camera comprising: 
 detection means for detecting connection with a printer; and    shift means for shifting to a print mode in response to the detection of the printer by said detection means.    
     
     
         2 . A camera comprising: 
 detection means for detecting connection with a printer; and    shift means for shifting to a print mode in case of detection of a printer by said detection means in a reproduction mode.    
     
     
         3 . A camera according to  claim 2 , further comprising display means for displaying, at the shift to said print mode, a mark indicating the shift to the print mode.  
     
     
         4 . A camera according to  claim 2 , further comprising means for causing display of a style confirming image in response to the depression of a predetermined button after the shift to said print mode and causing printing of the image in response to the depression of a predetermined button.  
     
     
         5 . A camera according to  claim 4 , further comprising means for executing a change in the style after the display of the style confirming image.  
     
     
         6 . A camera according to  claim 2 , further comprising conversion means for converting an image pickup signal from image pickup means into an image signal, recording means for recording, on a recording element, the image signal converted by said conversion means, and display means for displaying an image based on the image signal recorded on said recording element.  
     
     
         7 . A printer comprising: 
 identification means for identifying whether there is connected a cable for connection with a device serving as a host or a cable for connection with a device serving as a function; and    setting means for setting as a host or a function according to the result of identification by said identification means.    
     
     
         8 . A printer according to  claim 7 , further comprising print means, in case of setting as said host, for requesting print data to the connected device and executing printing based on the print data received from the device, and, in case of setting as said function, for receiving a print request from the connected device, informing the device of a print enabled state and executing printing based on the print data received from the device.  
     
     
         9 . A printer according to  claim 7 , wherein said setting means executes setting as the host in case the connected device is a camera and setting as the function in case the connected device is a computer.  
     
     
         10 . A printer according to  claim 7 , wherein, in case of setting as said host, said print means receives a print request from the connected device, requests print data to the device and executes printing based on the print data received from the device.  
     
     
         11 . A control method for a camera, comprising: 
 a detection step of detecting connection with a printer; and    a shift step of shifting to a print mode in response to the detection of the printer by said detection step.    
     
     
         12 . A control method for a camera, comprising: 
 a detection step of detecting connection with a printer; and    a shift step of shifting to a print mode in case of detection of a printer by said detection step in a reproduction mode.    
     
     
         13 . A control method according to  claim 12 , further comprising a display step of displaying, at the shift to said print mode, a mark indicating the shift to the print mode.  
     
     
         14 . A control method according to  claim 12 , further comprising a step of causing display of a print style in response to a first instruction after the shift to said print mode and causing printing of the displayed image in response to a second instruction.  
     
     
         15 . A control method according to  claim 14 , further comprising a step of executing a change in the print style after the display of the print style.  
     
     
         16 . A control method according to  claim 14 , wherein said first and second instructions are instructions based on the depression of a same button.  
     
     
         17 . A control method for a printer, comprising: 
 an identification step of identifying whether there is connected a cable for connection with a device serving as a host or a cable for connection with a device serving as a function; and    a setting step of setting as a host or a function according to the result of identification by said identification step.    
     
     
         18 . A control method according to  claim 17 , further comprising a print step, in case of setting as said host, of requesting print data to the connected device and executing printing based on the print data received from the device, and, in case of setting as said function, of receiving a print request from the connected device, informing the device of a print enabled state and executing printing based on the print data received from the device.  
     
     
         19 . A control method according to  claim 17 , wherein said setting step executes setting as the host in case the connected device is a camera and setting as the function in case the connected device is a computer.  
     
     
         20 . A control method according to  claim 17 , wherein, in case of setting as said host, said print step receives a print request from the connected device, requests print data to the device and executes printing based on the print data received from the device.  
     
     
         21 . A memory medium storing a control program for a camera, the control program comprising: 
 a detection step of detecting connection with a printer; and    a shift step of shifting to a print mode in response to the detection of the printer by said detection step.    
     
     
         22 . A memory medium storing a control program for a camera, the control program comprising: 
 a detection step of detecting connection with a printer; and    a shift step of shifting to a print mode in case of detection of a printer by said detection step in a reproduction mode.    
     
     
         23 . A memory medium according to  claim 22 , wherein the control program further comprises a display step of displaying, at the shift to said print mode, a mark indicating the shift to the print mode.  
     
     
         24 . A memory medium according to  claim 22 , the control program further comprises a step of causing display of a print style in response to a first instruction after the shift to said print mode and causing printing of the displayed image in response to a second instruction.  
     
     
         25 . A memory medium according to  claim 24 , wherein the control program further comprises a step of executing a change in the print style after the display of the print style.  
     
     
         26 . A memory medium according to  claim 24 , wherein said first and second instructions are instructions based on the depression of a same button.  
     
     
         27 . A memory medium storing a control program for a printer, the control program comprising: 
 an identification step of identifying whether there is connected a cable for connection with a device serving as a host or a cable for connection with a device serving as a function; and    a setting step of setting as a host or a function according to the result of identification by said identification step.    
     
     
         28 . A memory medium according to  claim 17 , wherein the control program further comprises a print step, in case of setting as said host, of requesting print data to the connected device and executing printing based on the print data received from the device, and, in case of setting as said function, of receiving a print request from the connected device, informing the device of a print enabled state and executing printing based on the print data received from the device.  
     
     
         29 . A memory medium according to  claim 27 , wherein said setting step executes setting as the host in case the connected device is a camera and setting as the function in case the connected device is a computer.  
     
     
         30 . A memory medium according to  claim 27 , wherein, in case of setting as said host, said print step receives a print request from the connected device, requests print data to the device and executes printing based on the print data received from the device.  
     
     
         31 . A control program for a camera, comprising: 
 a detection step of detecting connection with a printer; and    a shift step of shifting to a print mode in response to the detection of the printer by said detection step.    
     
     
         32 . A control program for a camera, comprising: 
 a detection step of detecting connection with a printer; and    a shift step of shifting to a print mode in case of detection of a printer by said detection step in a reproduction mode.    
     
     
         33 . A control program according to  claim 32 , further comprising a display step of displaying, at the shift to said print mode, a mark indicating the shift to the print mode.  
     
     
         34 . A control program according to  claim 32 , further comprising a step of causing display of a print style in response to a first instruction after the shift to said print mode and causing printing of the displayed image in response to a second instruction.  
     
     
         35 . A control program according to  claim 14 , further comprising a step of executing a change in the print style after the display of the print style.  
     
     
         36 . A control program according to  claim 34 , wherein said first and second instructions are instructions based on the depression of a same button.  
     
     
         37 . A control program for a printer, comprising: 
 an identification step of identifying whether there is connected a cable for connection with a device serving as a host or a cable for connection with a device serving as a function; and    a setting step of setting as a host or a function according to the result of identification by said identification step.

A control program according to  claim 37 , further comprising a print step, in case of setting as said host, of requesting print data to the connected device and executing printing based on the print data received from the device, and, in case of setting as said function, of receiving a print request from the connected device, informing the device of a print enabled state and executing printing based on the print data received from the device.  
     
     
         39 . A control program according to  claim 37 , wherein said setting step executes setting as the host in case the connected device is a camera and setting as the function in case the connected device is a computer.  
     
     
         40 . A control program according to  claim 37 , wherein, in case of setting as said host, said print step receives a print request from the connected device, requests print data to the device and executes printing based on the print data received from the device.  
     
     
         41 . A print system comprising: 
 a camera including detection means for detecting connection with a printer, and shift means for shifting to a print mode in response to the detection of the printer by said detection means; and    a printer including identification means for identifying whether there is connected a cable for connection with a device serving as a host or a cable for connection with a device serving as a function, and setting means for setting as a host or a function according to the result of identification by said identification means.
