Abstract

This invention relates to the gene sequence of a novel transcription factor specific for central 5-HT (serotonergic) neurons. The sequence and products are useful in screening methods for identifying and testing agonists and antagonists of seronergic activity.

We claim:  
     
         1 . A composition comprising a purified peptide (SEQ ID NO:2) or portion thereof.  
     
     
         2 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein said peptide is bound to DNA having a sequence selected from SEQ ID NO: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13.  
     
     
         3 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein said peptide is expressed by a cell line.  
     
     
         4 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein said peptide is part of a fusion protein.  
     
     
         5 . A method, comprising: 
 a) providing in any order: i) the composition of claim  1 ; b) an extract from source suspected of having at least one interactive peptide; and c) mixing said composition with said extract under conditions such that said interactive peptide is detected.    
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein said extract is selected from a group comprising cells or tissues.
