Diaper bag with a pocketbook

Abstract

A diaper and related accessories bag incorporating pocketbook features. The inside of the diaper bag has a plurality of convenient storage compartments for baby care items such as bottles, baby wipes, etc. One aspect of the present device is that it can be easily and quickly opened with one free hand, thus allowing access to the convenient storage compartments for baby care items while the other hand is left free for other purposes. A handle capable of being worn over an arm and on one shoulder is provided. The side edges of the bag are secured by hook and loop fastening means. One or more additional compartments and separate pouch(es) may be provided to the outside panels.

I claim:  
     
         1 . A bag for carrying baby care items comprising a first panel, a second panel connected to said first panel, at least one compartment located on the inside of at least one of said panels, an over the shoulder-size handle secured to a first of said panels and a pair of opposed panel edge closure means such that said handbag when worn over a shoulder may be opened with only one hand by pulling down on said handle thereby exerting downward force against the support of said shoulder to unfasten said opposed panel edge closure means.  
     
     
         2 . A bag as claimed in  claim 1  wherein said opposed panel edge closure means comprise hook and loop fasteners.  
     
     
         3 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 1 , further comprising a second over the shoulder-sized handle attached to said second panel.  
     
     
         4 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of different-sized compartments located on the inside of both of said panels.  
     
     
         5 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 4 , wherein one of said compartments is sized for securing at least one diaper.  
     
     
         6 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 4 , wherein one of said compartments is sized for securing a baby bottle.  
     
     
         7 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 4 , wherein one of said compartments is sized for securing wipes.  
     
     
         8 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 1 , further comprising a separate pocketbook section secured to the outside of one of said panels.  
     
     
         9 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 8 , further comprising a pouch located on the outside of one of said panels and between said pocketbook section and the outside of one of said panels.  
     
     
         10 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 5 , wherein said compartment for holding a diaper has a closure means.  
     
     
         11 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 7 , wherein said compartment for holding wipes is lined with plastic material.  
     
     
         12 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 7 , wherein said compartment for holding wipes has a slit that enables one at a time removal of wipes.  
     
     
         13 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 8 , further comprising a closure flap secured to said pocketbook section.  
     
     
         14 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 4  further comprising fastening means attached to said compartments.  
     
     
         15 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 9  wherein said pouch is sized to accommodate a changing pad.  
     
     
         16 . A bag for carrying baby care items and a care giver's personal belongings, comprising a panel, foldable into sections and defining outside and inside surfaces, a handle secured to said panel and sized to be worn over the arm and on a shoulder, and at least one compartment located on the inside surface of said panel for carrying baby care items, said panel sections having two side edges, wherein said side edges are provided with mating closing means.  
     
     
         17 . A bag, as claimed in  claim 17 , wherein at least one of said compartments is lined with plastic.  
     
     
         18 . The bag, as claimed in  claim 16  further comprising an exterior compartment secured to said outside section of said panel.
