Abstract

Impact-resistant sandwich structural elements containing at least one solid thermo-setting polyurethane layer and at least one polyurethane elastomer layer and a process for their preparation are disclosed. The elements are useful in preparing sanitary fittings, swimming pools, domestic refrigerators, wall panels, vehicles or furniture, in the construction industry, in waste-water technology or in coach-building.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . An article comprising a plurality of layers arranged in the sequence of components a) through f) wherein
 a) is an optional decorative hard surface layer, and b) is a solid thermosetting polyurethane layer, and c) is a crosslinked polyurethane elastomer layer, and d) is an optional polyurethane foam layer, and e) is a solid thermosetting polyurethane layer, and f) is an optional substrate, each of said a) through f) being bonded to its neighboring components.

2 . An article comprising a plurality of layers arranged in the sequence of components a) through f) wherein
 a) is an optional decorative hard surface layer, and b) is a solid thermosetting polyurethane layer, and c) is a crosslinked polyurethane elastomer layer, and d) is an optional polyurethane foam layer, and e) is a solid thermosetting polyurethane layer, and f) is an optional decorative hard surface layer, each of said a) through f) being bonded to its neighboring components.

3 . The article of claim 1 wherein the polyurethanes (b) and (e) and the polyurethane of (c) are products of reactions having identical isocyanate reactants.

4 . A process for preparing the article of claim 1 comprising applying said (b) to said (c) before said (b) has reached a non-tacky state and said layer combination of at least (b) and (c) to said (e) before said layer combination of at least (b) and (c) has reached a non-tacky state.

5 . The process of claim 4 comprising applying each of said (b), said (c) and said (e) in the form of plurality of coats by spraying.

6 . The article of claim 1 selected from the group consisting of sanitary fitting and body of a refrigerated vehicle.

7 . The article of claim 2 selected from the group consisting of sanitary fitting and body of a refrigerated vehicle.
