Claims

Abstract

A windshield repair injector, to repair star, bulls-eye and elongated cracks in a laminated windshield. The device has a stepped threaded section for easy removal and installation. When the injector is placed against a glass surface, upward motion of a piston provides a vacuum in the piston chamber for removing moisture trapped in the damage region. Afterwards insertion of an optically clear resin, with an optical coefficient equal to glass is inserted under pressure, creating a permanent and virtually invisible repair.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A windshield repair injector assembly comprising: 
 an injector body extending from a first end to a second end, said injector body having a bore extending from said first end to said second end of said injector body;    a movable piston having a first end and a second end, the first end of said piston having a threaded section and a knob, said bore adapted for accepting therein at least a portion of said movable piston; said piston having a groove;    a pin in communication with the threaded section of said movable piston;    an O-ring disposed within said groove, said O-ring creating a seal between said injector body and said movable piston; and    a sealing member disposed at the second end of said injector body, said sealing member adapted for creating a seal between said injector body and said windshield,    wherein upon turning said knob in a first direction said piston travels in a direction towards the first end of said cylindrical body and upon turning said knob in a second direction said piston travels in a direction towards the second end of said cylindrical body.    
     
     
         2 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 1  wherein said injector body having an outer threaded middle section adapted for removably attaching said injector body to a mounting platform.  
     
     
         3 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 2  wherein said injector body having a first outer exterior nonthreaded surface section between said first end and said middle section and a second exterior nonthreaded surface section between said second end and said middle section,  
     
     
         4 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 4  wherein an outer diameter of said of said second exterior nonthreaded surface section is smaller in size than an outer diameter of said middle section.  
     
     
         5 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 1  wherein an outer diameter of said injector body at the second end is smaller in size that an outer diameter of said injector body at the first end.  
     
     
         6 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 3  wherein said outer threaded middle section which adapted for mating with a threaded section in the mounting platform.  
     
     
         7 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 3  further including a locknut mounted to said injector body in proximity to and contacting an upper surface of the mounting platform, said locking nut preventing rotation of said injector body when said knob is turned.  
     
     
         8 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 1  wherein said injector body is cylindrical in shape.  
     
     
         9 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 1  wherein said movable piston having a second groove, said assembly further including a second O-ring disposed within said second groove, said second O-ring providing a seal between said injector body and said movable piston for preventing the escape of gas or liquids between said piston and said injector body.  
     
     
         10 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 1  wherein said sealing member is a gasket.  
     
     
         11 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 1  wherein said sealing member is a second O-ring.  
     
     
         12 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 1  wherein said piston moves vertically within said bore when knob is turned clockwise or counter-clockwise.  
     
     
         13 . A windshield repair injector assembly comprising: 
 a cylindrical injector body extending from a first end to a second end, said injector body having a bore extending from said first end to said second end of said injector body, said injector body having an outer threaded middle section adapted for removably attaching said injector body to a mounting platform;    a movable piston having a first end and a second end, the first end of said piston having a threaded section and a knob, said bore adapted for accepting therein at least a portion of said movable piston; said piston having a groove;    a pin in communication with the threaded section of said movable piston;    an O-ring disposed within said groove, said O-ring creating a seal between said injector body and said movable piston;    a sealing member disposed at the second end of said injector body, said sealing member adapted for creating a seal between said injector body and said windshield; and    a locknut mounted to said injector body in proximity to and contacting an upper surface of the mounting platform, said locking nut preventing rotation of said injector body when said knob is turned;    wherein upon turning said knob in a first direction said piston travels in a direction towards the first end of said cylindrical body and upon turning said knob in a second direction said piston travels in a direction towards the second end of said cylindrical body.    
     
     
         14 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 13  wherein said injector body having a first outer exterior nonthreaded surface section between said first end and said middle section and a second exterior nonthreaded surface section between said second end and said middle section,  
     
     
         15 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 13  wherein an outer diameter of said of said second exterior nonthreaded surface section is smaller in size than an outer diameter of said middle section.  
     
     
         16 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 13  wherein said movable piston having a second groove, said assembly further including a second O-ring disposed within said second groove, said second O-ring providing a seal between said injector body and said movable piston for preventing the escape of gas or liquids between said piston and said injector body.  
     
     
         17 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 13  wherein said sealing member is a gasket.  
     
     
         18 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 13  wherein said sealing member is a second O-ring.  
     
     
         19 . A windshield repair injector assembly comprising: 
 a cylindrical injector body extending from a first end to a second end, said injector body having a bore extending from said first end to said second end of said injector body, said injector body having an outer threaded middle section adapted for removably attaching said injector body to a mounting platform, said injector body having a first outer exterior nonthreaded surface section between said first end and said middle section and a second exterior nonthreaded surface section between said second end and said middle section;    a movable piston having a first end and a second end, the first end of said piston having a threaded section and a knob, said bore adapted for accepting therein at least a portion of said movable piston; said piston having a first groove and a second groove;    a pin in communication with the threaded section of said movable piston;    a first O-ring disposed within said first groove, said first O-ring creating a seal between said injector body and said movable piston;    a second O-ring disposed within said second groove, said second O-ring creating a seal between said injector body and said movable piston;    a sealing member disposed at the second end of said injector body, said sealing member adapted for creating a seal between said injector body and said windshield; and    a locknut mounted to said injector body in proximity to and contacting an upper surface of the mounting platform, said locking nut preventing rotation of said injector body when said knob is turned;    wherein upon turning said knob in a first direction said piston travels in a direction towards the first end of said cylindrical body and upon turning said knob in a second direction said piston travels in a direction towards the second end of said cylindrical body;    wherein an outer diameter of said of said second exterior nonthreaded surface section is smaller in size than an outer diameter of said middle section.    
     
     
         20 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 19  said first O-ring and said second O-ring preventing the escape of gas or liquids between said piston and said injector body.  
     
     
         21 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 19  wherein said sealing member is a gasket.  
     
     
         22 . The windshield repair injector assembly of  claim 19  wherein said sealing member is a third O-ring.
