Claims
Abstract
In an active matrix liquid crystal display device, a component of an electric field generated between a drain electrode and source electrode of a TFT element for controlling power supply to a pixel electrode, which is parallel to substrates, has a direction identical with a rubbing direction of a liquid crystal layer.

1 . An active matrix liquid crystal display device with a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched by said substrates, in which a pixel electrode and a common electrode are alternately arranged at a predetermined gap so that an electric field parallel to said substrates is generated in said liquid crystal layer,
wherein a component of an electric field generated between a drain electrode and source electrode of a TFT element for controlling power supply to said pixel electrode, which is parallel to said substrates, has a direction identical with a rubbing direction of said liquid crystal layer.
2 . An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein opposing edges of said drain electrode and said source electrodes are perpendicular to the rubbing direction.
3 . An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the rubbing direction of said liquid crystal layer on at least said TFT element is set to match a direction of a component of the electric field generated between said drain electrode and said source electrode, which is parallel to said substrates.
4 . An apparatus according to claim 3 , wherein rubbing of said liquid crystal layer on said TFT element is performed by mask rubbing of said liquid crystal layer on said TFT element.
5 . An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the rubbing direction of an entire liquid crystal is set parallel to a longitudinal direction of a comb electrode formed of said pixel electrode and said common electrode.
6 . An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein a semiconductor layer of said TFT element is parallel or perpendicular to the rubbing direction.
7 . An apparatus according to claim 3 , wherein an alignment direction that partially changes upon irradiation with light is formed by using an alignment film which performs alignment upon irradiation with light.
8 . An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein an alignment film which performs alignment upon irradiation with light is used.
9 . An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein a liquid crystal with a negative dielectric constant anisotropy is used to form said liquid crystal layer, and liquid crystal alignment is given in a direction perpendicular to a direction of the electric field generated between said drain electrode and said source electrode.
10 . An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said drain electrode, said source electrode, and amorphous silicon are formed inclined to match the rubbing direction of said liquid crystal layer.
11 . An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein a component of the electric field generated between said drain electrode and said source electrode, which is parallel to said substrates, is set parallel to the rubbing direction, and said pixel electrode and said common electrode within at least a display region are inclined with respect to the rubbing direction.
12 . An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein a component of the electric field generated between said drain electrode and said source electrode, which is parallel to said substrates, is set parallel to the rubbing direction, and said pixel electrode and said common electrode are formed into an L-shaped structure.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
