Abstract

A wall plate for attaching a structural beam to a masonry wall is disclosed. The wall plate has a flat plate having at least two bolt holes and an absence of nail holes therethrough. At least one anchor is fixed to the flat plate and extends from one side of it. Means are welded to that side which have at least two threaded apertures therethrough, where each aperture is aligned with a bolt hole. There is a removable covering over the means. Methods of using the wall plate are also disclosed. To make a precast concrete panel, one or more wall plates are attached by any suitable means to the inside of forms at the positions required to bolt the resulting panel to structural beams and concrete is poured into the forms. After the concrete has set, the precast concrete panel is transported to the building construction site and is positioned so that an angle connector can be bolted to the wall plate and to a structural beam, If the masonry wall is made of laid concrete blocks, concrete is poured into the top of blocks and the wall plate is pressed horizontally into that concrete. Structural beams can then be bolted to the wall plate.

         2 . A wall plate according to claim 1 wherein said means is at least one nut bar.

         3 . A wall plate according to claim 2 wherein said flat plate has two bolt holes therethrough and said means is two nut bars, each nut bar having a single threaded aperture therethrough.

         4 . A wall plate according to claim 1 wherein said bolt holes are covered by a removable covering.

         5 . A wall plate according to claim 1 made of steel.

         6 . A wall plate according to claim 1 wherein said flat plate is a rectangle about 10 to about 17 inches wide, about 6 to about 37 inches long, and about 0.375 to about 1.5 inches thick.

         7 . A wall plate according to claim 1 wherein said flat plate has a mark on top at its center.

         8 . A structure comprising
 (A) a form for casting concrete; and (B) at least one wall plate according to claim 1 attached to the inside of said form.

         9 . A building structure comprising
 (A) a masonry wall; and (B) a wall plate according to claim 1 embedded in concrete in said wall, with said anchors within said concrete and said flat plate flush with a surface of said wall.

         10 . A building structure according to claim 9 wherein said masonry wall is made of concrete and surface is vertical.

         11 . A building structure according to claim 9 wherein said masonry wall is made of concrete blocks, said concrete is inside at least one concrete block, and said surface is horizontal.

         12 . A method of making a building structure comprising
 (A) attaching a wall plate according to claim 1 flush to the inside of a form with said anchors extending into said form; (B) pouring concrete into said form, covering said anchors; (C) removing said form after said concrete has hardened; and (D) attaching said wall plate to said beam by means of bolts.

         13 . A method of making a building structure comprising
 (A) laying a masonry wall made of concrete blocks and having a horizontal portion with exposed openings on top of said blocks; (B) filling at least some of said openings with poured concrete; (C) pressing a wall plate according to claim 1 into said poured concrete with said anchors extending into said poured concrete; (D) allowing said concrete to set; and (F) attaching a structural beam to said wall plate by means of bolts.

         14 . A building structure made according to the method of claim 13 .

         15 . A method of making a building structure comprising
 (A) casting a concrete panel by
 ( 1 ) attaching a wall plate according to  claim 1  flush against the inside of said form with said anchors extending into said form;
 ( 2 ) pouring concrete into said form;
 ( 3 ) allowing said concrete to set; and
 ( 4 ) removing said concrete from said form;
   (B) transporting said concrete panel to a building site; and (C) attaching said wall plate to a structural beam by means of bolts.

         16 . A building structure made according to the method of claim 15 .

         17 . A method of making a building structure comprising
 (A) laying a masonry wall made of concrete blocks and having a horizontal portion with exposed openings on top of said blocks; (B) filling at least some of said openings with poured concrete; (C) pressing into said poured concrete a wall plate that comprises
