Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of treating migraine in a mammal, including a human, by administering to the mammal a 5HT 1 receptor agonist, and particularly eletriptan, in combination with metoclopramide. It also relates to pharmaceutical compositions containing a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, a 5HT 1 receptor agonist and metoclopramide.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of migraine comprising metoclopramide, a member of the group consisting of eletriptan, rizatriptan, naratriptan and sumitriptan, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

2 . A method of treating migraine in a mammal, comprising administering to said mammal an antimigraine effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1 .

3 . A method of treating migraine in a mammal, comprising administering to said mammal antimigraine effective amounts of metoclopramide and a 5HT 1 receptor agonist.

4 . A method according to claim 3 , wherein the 5HT 1 receptor agonist and metoclopramide are administered separately according to a dose regimen that renders the combination of the separately administered active agents effective in the treatment of migraine.

5 . A method according to claim 3 , wherein the 5HT 1 receptor agonist is administered in antimigraine effective amounts from about 1 mg to about 400 mg per day and metoclopramide is administered in an antimigraine effective amount from about 5 mg to about 125 mg per kg day.

6 . A method according to claim 3 , wherein the 5HT 1 receptor agonist, or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, is administered orally and metoclopramide is administered intravenously.

7 . A method according to claim 3 , wherein the 5HT 1 receptor agonist is selected from the group consisting of eletriptan, rizatriptan, naratriptan and sumitriptan.
