Preparation and method for the treatment and prevention of dementia disorders

Abstract

A preparation for the treatment and/or prevention of dementia disorders, especially disorders due to regressive cellular changes. A dose of at least one steroidal antagonist is included as the active agent. A mixture of such substances can also be applied.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:  
     
         1 . A method of treating and preventing dementia in a human patient, the method including the steps of: 
 forming a pharmaceutical composition containing an antiestrogenically effective amount of an antiestrogen; and    administering said pharmaceutical composition to the patient.    
     
     
         2 . The method of treating and preventing dementia according to    claim 1   , wherein said antiestrogen is tamoxifen.  
     
     
         3 . The method of treating and preventing dementia according to    claim 1   , wherein said antiestrogen is a tamoxifen-derivative selected from the group consisting of 4-OH-tamoxifen, 3-OH-tamoxifen, N-desmethyltamoxifen, monophenoltamoxifen, cyanotamoxifen, CB 7432, toremifene, 4-OH-toremifene, N-desmethyltoremifene, monophenoltoremifene, deaminotoremifene, and clomiphene.  
     
     
         4 . The method of treating and preventing dementia according to    claim 1   , wherein said antiestrogen includes a triphenylethylene base structure.  
     
     
         5 . The method of treating and preventing dementia according to    claim 4   , wherein said antiestrogen having a triphenylethylene base structure has more than one side chain.  
     
     
         6 . The method of treating and preventing dementia according to    claim 1   , wherein said composition is administered to the human patient in an amount of about between 5 and 100 mg per day.  
     
     
         7 . The method of treating and preventing dementia according to    claim 1   , wherein said composition is administered to the human patient in an amount of about between 20 and 60 mg per day.  
     
     
         8 . The method of treating and preventing dementia according to    claim 1   , wherein said composition is administered to the human patient in an amount of about 40 mg per day.  
     
     
         9 . The method of treating and preventing dementia according to    claim 1   , wherein the period for administration is about between 3 months and 24 months.  
     
     
         10 . A method of treating and preventing regressive cellular changes in a human patient, the method including the steps of: 
 forming a pharmaceutical composition containing an antiestrogenically effective amount of an antiestrogen; and    administering said pharmaceutical composition to the patient.    
     
     
         11 . A method for the treatment and prevention of dementia disorders in humans, the method comprising the steps of: 
 selecting an effective anti-dementia ingredient from the group consisting of pure and partial steroidal antagonists and agonists; and    administering said selected effective anti-dementia ingredient in an amount of between 5 and 100 mg per day until desired results are achieved.    
     
     
         12 . The method for treatment and prevention of    claim 11   , wherein said anti-dementia ingredient has the form of a receptor-specific pure antagonist.  
     
     
         13 . The method for treatment and prevention of    claim 11   , wherein said anti-dementia ingredient has the form of a receptor-nonspecific partial agonist.  
     
     
         14 . The method for treatment and prevention of    claim 11   , wherein said anti-dementia ingredient is tamoxifen.  
     
     
         15 . The method for treatment and prevention of    claim 11   , wherein said anti-dementia ingredient has the form of a metabolite of the steroidal antagonist.  
     
     
         16 . The method for treatment and prevention of    claim 11   , wherein said anti-dementia ingredient has the form of an antiandrogen.  
     
     
         17 . The method for treatment and prevention of    claim 16   , wherein said antiandrogen has the form of a receptor-specific pure antiandrogen.  
     
     
         18 . The method for treatment and prevention of    claim 11   , wherein said anti-dementia ingredient has the form of an antiprogesterone.  
     
     
         19 . The method for treatment and prevention of    claim 18   , wherein said antiprogesterone has the form of a receptor-specific pure antiprogesterone.  
     
     
         20 . The method for treatment and prevention of    claim 18   , wherein at least regionally said antiprogesterone has the form of a receptor-nonspecific partial agonist.
