Synthetic lubricity additives for hydrocarbon fuels
Abstract
Lubricity additives for hydrocarbon fuels are provided according to formula I:wherein n is 1 or 0; each Q is independently selected from oxygen and sulfur; each R is independently selected from C8-C60 alkenyl groups which are substituted or unsubstituted; and L is a linking group comprising 0-20 carbons which may be substituted or unsubstituted and may optionally comprise catenary heteroatoms. Fuel mixtures comprising a hydrocarbon fuel; and a lubricity additive according to the present disclosure are also provided. Methods of making lubricity additives comprise reacting an alkenyl succinic anhydrides (ASA's) with certain bisamides or bisthioamides.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWe claim:
1. A lubricity additive comprising a bisester which is the reaction product of glycerol and an alkenyl succinic anhydride according to formula II:
wherein R is a C8-C60 alkenyl group which is substituted or unsubstituted; and wherein the bisester incorporates glycerol and the alkenyl succinic anhydride in a molar ratio of 1:2.
2. The lubricity additive according to claim 1 wherein each R is independently selected from C8-C32 alkenyl groups.
3. The lubricity additive according to claim 1 wherein each R is independently selected from C12-C24 alkenyl groups.
4. The lubricity additive according to claim 1 wherein R is an octadecenyl group.
5. A lubricity additive formulation consisting essentially of the lubricity additive according to claim 1 and solvent.
6. The lubricity additive formulation according to claim 5 wherein the solvent is heavy aromatic naphtha.
7. A fuel mixture comprising:
a) a hydrocarbon fuel; and
b) a lubricity additive according to claim 1 .
8. The fuel mixture according to claim 7 wherein the hydrocarbon f uel is a diesel fuel.
9. A fuel mixture comprising:
a) a hydrocarbon fuel; and
b) a lubricity additive formulation according to claim 5 .
10. The fuel mixture according to claim 9 wherein the hydrocarbon fuel is a diesel fuel.
11. A method of making a lubricity additive comprising reacting one molar equivalent of glycerol with two molar equivalents of an alkenyl succinic anhydride according to formula II:
wherein R is a C8-C60 alkenyl group which is substituted or unsubstituted.
12. The method according to claim 11 wherein each R is independently selected from C8-C32 alkenyl groups.
13. The method according to claim 11 wherein each R is independently selected from C12-C24 alkenyl groups.
14. The method according to claim 11 wherein R is an octadecenyl group.
15. The method according to claim 11 wherein the lubricity additive is a bisester.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
