Abstract

Waste water is remanufactured with ozone in a series of mixing vessels. The ozone is dispersed to both a top and a bottom portion of each mixing vessel, but in different amounts. This creates an electrical potential difference across the height of each mixing vessel which significantly improves the oxidation of organic carbon-based impurities and eliminates H2S and bacteria. Sludge and solids floating to the top of each mixing vessels are removed, as well as sludge and solids settling to the bottom of the mixing vessels. When oil and gas well waste water is treated in this manner, the resulting treated water is purified and has a high salt content suitable for oil or gas well injection.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. A process for treating water containing impurities, the process comprising:
 in a mixing vessel, continuously treating the water containing impurities with ozone, wherein ozone is dispersed into the water containing impurities entering an upper portion of the mixing vessel, and additional ozone is concurrently dispersed into the water in a lower portion of the mixing vessel; 
 continually or cyclically removing the impurities as sludge and contaminants floating to the top of each mixing vessel and of sludge and contaminants settling to the bottom of each mixing vessel; and 
 withdrawing treated water from the mixing vessel. 
 
     
     
       2. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include soluble salts. 
     
     
       3. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include bacteria. 
     
     
       4. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include hydrogen sulfide. 
     
     
       5. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include iron. 
     
     
       6. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene. 
     
     
       7. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include volatile organic compounds. 
     
     
       8. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include corrosion inhibitors. 
     
     
       9. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include alcohols. 
     
     
       10. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include organic acids. 
     
     
       11. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include surfactants. 
     
     
       12. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include nitrogenous compounds. 
     
     
       13. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include polyol. 
     
     
       14. The process of  claim 1 , wherein the impurities include borax. 
     
     
       15. A process for treating salt water containing organic impurities, the process comprising:
 in a mixing vessel, continuously treating the salt water containing organic impurities with ozone, wherein ozone is dispersed into water containing organic impurities entering an upper portion of the mixing vessel, and additional ozone is concurrently dispersed into the salt water in a lower portion of the mixing vessel while maintaining the salt content of the water; 
 continually or cyclically removing the organic impurities as sludge and contaminants floating to the top of the mixing vessel and of sludge and contaminants settling to the bottom of the mixing vessel; and 
 withdrawing treated salt water from the mixing vessel. 
 
     
     
       16. A process for treating fluid containing organic impurities, the process comprising:
 in a mixing vessel, continuously treating the fluid containing organic impurities with ozone, 
 wherein ozone is dispersed into the fluid containing organic impurities entering an upper portion of the mixing vessel, and additional ozone is concurrently dispersed into the fluid containing organic impurities in a lower portion of the mixing vessel; 
 continually or cyclically removing the organic impurities as sludge and contaminants floating to the top of each mixing vessel and of sludge and contaminants settling to the bottom of the mixing vessel; and 
 withdrawing treated fluid from the mixing vessel.
