Abstract
A modular furniture assembly has a modular universal base, an armrest module, and a modular recliner. The armrest is modularly coupled to one side of the modular universal base and includes an armrest member, a stepped member, a base horizontal member, and a base vertical plate. The modular recliner is coupled to another side of the modular universal base, and includes a recliner base and a backrest module. The recliner base has a plurality of frames that are interconnected and mechanically attached to each other. The recliner base includes a recessed surface that forms a transverse gap within the recliner base, and a top support having a flat top surface aligned with top edges of the plurality of frames. The backrest module has two backrest sections with end plates configured to move, respectively, along the recessed surface.

1. A modular furniture assembly comprising:
a modular universal base;
an armrest module modularly coupled to one side of the modular universal base, the armrest module having a stepped member configured to receive a user head when the user is in a lying down position; and
a modular recliner coupled to another side of the modular universal base, the modular recliner having a recliner base and a backrest module, the recliner base having a transverse gap defined in part by a plurality of frames that are interconnected and mechanically attached to each other.
2. The modular furniture assembly of claim 1 , wherein the armrest module further has an armrest member configured to receive a user arm when a user is in a seated position.
3. The modular furniture assembly of claim 2 , wherein the stepped member is lower than the armrest member.
4. The modular furniture assembly of claim 2 , wherein the armrest module further has a base horizontal member that is lower than the stepped member.
5. The modular furniture assembly of claim 1 , wherein the armrest module further has a base vertical plate that covers an empty internal space near a bottom end of the armrest module.
6. The modular furniture assembly of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of frames include a front frame member, a right frame member, a left frame member, and a rear frame member.
7. The modular furniture assembly of claim 6 , wherein the transverse gap is formed as a recessed surface in each of the left and right frame members.
8. The modular furniture assembly of claim 1 , wherein the recliner base further has a top support with a top surface that is aligned with top edges of the plurality of frames.
9. The modular furniture assembly of claim 8 , wherein the top support has at least two sandwiched frame layers enclosing an internal space for reducing weight of the modular recliner.
10. The modular furniture assembly of claim 1 , wherein the backrest module has two backrest sections, each of the backrest sections having at least one plate with a bottom surface at an inclined angle, the bottom surface being configured to move along a respective recessed surface.
11. A modular furniture assembly comprising:
an armrest module having an armrest member and a stepped member, the armrest member being configured to receive a user arm when a user is in a seated position, the stepped member being lower than the armrest member; and
a modular recliner having a recliner base and a backrest module, the backrest module having a plurality of plates, each plate of the plurality of plates having a bottom surface at an inclined angle that is configured to move along a respective recessed surface; and
a connecting apparatus configured to achieve a secure, toolless modular attachment between the armrest module and the modular recliner.
12. The modular furniture assembly of claim 11 , wherein the stepped member is generally horizontal to the armrest member.
13. The modular furniture assembly of claim 11 , wherein the connecting apparatus includes an insertion connector and a receiving connector.
14. The modular furniture assembly of claim 13 , wherein the insertion connector is attached directly to the armrest module.
15. The modular furniture assembly of claim 13 , wherein the insertion connector has a bent end.
16. The modular furniture assembly of claim 13 , wherein the receiving connector is attached directly to the modular recliner, the receiving connector having a mounting space for receiving at least a portion of the insertion connector.
17. A modular furniture assembly comprising:
a modular universal base;
an armrest module modularly coupled to one side of the modular universal base, the armrest module having an armrest member and a stepped member the stepped member being lower than the armrest member;
a modular recliner coupled to another side of the modular universal base, the modular recliner having a recliner base and a backrest module;
a first connecting apparatus configured to achieve a secure, toolless modular attachment between the armrest module and the modular universal base; and
a second connecting apparatus configured to achieve a secure, toolless modular attachment between the modular universal base and the modular recliner.
18. The modular furniture assembly of claim 17 , wherein the first connecting apparatus and the second connecting apparatus are identical to each other.
19. The modular furniture assembly of claim 17 , wherein at least one of the first connecting apparatus and the second connecting apparatus includes an insertion connector and a receiving connector.
