Laminated fabrics and protective covers with post-industrial and/or post-consumer content and methods of making laminated fabrics and protective covers with post-industrial and/or post consumer content
Abstract
A method of recycling laminated fabrics and laminated fabric products and producing new laminated fabrics and laminated fabric products includes the steps of shredding scrap or used laminated fabric material, melt separating the polymers, pelletizing the melt separated polymers, extruding the pelletized material with at least one virgin material to form a film, and laminating the film to a nonwoven material to form a new laminated fabric. The scrap or recycled laminated fabric products can include plastic/polymer materials having different melting temperatures. The new laminated fabric can be utilized to produce new products, such as protective covers.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1. A laminated fabric, including:
a film layer including at least some of a first component from a recycled laminated fabric product, the first component having a melting point, at least some of a second component from the recycled laminated fabric product, the second component having a melting point different from the melting point of the first component of the recycled laminated fabric product, and at least one virgin polymer resin;
a nonwoven layer; and
an adhesive between the film layer and the nonwoven layer.
2. The laminated fabric of claim 1 , wherein the first component of the recycled laminated fabric product is a polyethylene polymer.
3. The laminated fabric of claim 2 , wherein the second component of the recycled laminated fabric product is PET.
4. The laminated fabric of claim 1 , wherein the difference between the melting point of the first component of the recycled laminated fabric product and the melting point of the second component of the recycled laminated fabric product is at least 14%.
5. The laminated fabric of claim 1 , wherein the difference between the melting point of the first component of the recycled laminated fabric product and the melting point of the second component of the recycled laminated fabric product is at least 100 degrees Celsius.
6. The laminated fabric of claim 1 , wherein the first component of the recycled laminated fabric product and the at least one virgin resin are the same material.
7. A laminated fabric including material from a recycled laminated fabric product, the recycled laminated fabric product having a first component having a melting point and a second component having a melting point different from the melting point of the first component, the laminated fabric further including:
a film layer including at least some of the first component from the recycled laminated fabric product and at least one virgin polymer resin;
a nonwoven layer; and
an adhesive between the film layer and the nonwoven layer.
8. The laminated fabric of claim 7 , wherein the recycled laminated fabric product is heat shrinkable.
9. The laminated fabric of claim 7 , wherein the content of material from the recycled laminated fabric product is less than 90% by weight of the laminated fabric.
10. The laminated fabric of claim 7 , wherein the content of material from the recycled laminated fabric product is greater than 1% by weight of the laminated fabric.
11. The laminated fabric of claim 7 , wherein the first component of the recycled laminated fabric product is a polyethylene polymer.
12. The laminated fabric of claim 7 , wherein the second component of the recycled laminated fabric product is PET.
13. The laminated fabric of claim 7 , wherein the film layer includes at least some of the second component from the recycled laminated fabric product.
14. The laminated fabric of claim 7 , wherein the laminated fabric is heat sealable.
15. The laminated fabric of claim 7 , wherein the first component of the recycled laminated fabric product and the at least one virgin resin are the same material.
16. The laminated fabric of claim 1 , wherein the nonwoven layer is constructed at least in part from recycled material.
17. The laminated fabric of claim 1 , wherein, the nonwoven layer is constructed entirely from recycled material.
18. The laminated fabric of claim 7 , wherein the nonwoven layer is constructed at least in part from recycled material.
19. The laminated fabric of claim 7 , wherein the nonwoven layer is constructed entirely from recycled material.
20. A heat shrinkable laminated fabric including material from a recycled laminated fabric product, the recycled laminated fabric product having a first component having a melting point and a second component having a melting point different from the melting point of the first component, the laminated fabric further including:
a film layer including at least some of the first component from the recycled laminated fabric product and at least one virgin polymer resin;
a nonwoven layer; and
an adhesive between the film layer and the nonwoven layer.
21. The laminated fabric of claim 20 , wherein the content of material from the recycled laminated fabric product is less than 90% by weight of the laminated fabric.
22. The laminated fabric of claim 20 , wherein the content of material from the recycled laminated fabric product is greater than 1% by weight of the laminated fabric.
23. The laminated fabric of claim 20 , wherein the first component of the recycled laminated fabric product is a polyethylene polymer.
24. The laminated fabric of claim 20 , wherein the second component of the recycled laminated fabric product is PET.
25. The laminated fabric of claim 20 , wherein the film layer includes at least some of the second component from the recycled laminated fabric product.
26. The laminated fabric of claim 20 , wherein the laminated fabric is heat sealable.
27. The laminated fabric of claim 20 , wherein the first component of the recycled laminated fabric product and the at least one virgin resin are the same material.
