Firearm system

Abstract

An adapter for an M240 machine gun to position the trigger housing assembly distally forward as well as an M240 machine gun with the trigger housing assembly positioned distally forward from the proximal end of the receiver.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. An M240 variant machine gun comprising:
 an M240 variant machine gun having a receiver with a floor, floor wall, ejection port, top, proximal end, and distal end, the floor wall at the proximal end of the receiver; 
 a butt stock connected to the proximal end of the receiver; 
 a barrel connected to the distal end of the receiver; the barrel removable from the distal end of the receiver; 
 a trigger housing assembly with a grip, the trigger housing assembly attached to the floor of the receiver and positioned between the floor wall and the ejection port; the floor wall having a length of at least two inches in length; and 
 the ejection port located on the receiver floor and distal to the trigger housing assembly. 
 
     
     
       2. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 1  where the floor wall has a length of at least three inches. 
     
     
       3. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 1  wherein the top of the receiver includes a cheek rest, the check rest comprising a surface free from obstructions. 
     
     
       4. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 1  wherein the bottom of the receiver further comprises a mounting point positioned distal to both the receiver floor wall and a trigger opening and positioned proximal to the ejection port. 
     
     
       5. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 1  wherein the trigger housing assembly further comprises a proximal leg for engaging a trigger housing assembly engagement on the receiver, the trigger housing assembly engagement located at about the proximal end of the receiver. 
     
     
       6. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 1  further comprising an operating rod with a distal end, a proximal end and a sear engagement; the sear engagement located at least two inches away from the proximal end of the operating rod. 
     
     
       7. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 1  wherein the receiver comprises a unitary first shell and a unitary second shell that form the receiver. 
     
     
       8. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 7  wherein the union of the unitary first shell and the unitary second shell form the ejection port and trigger opening with the trigger housing assembly attachable between the receiver floor wall and the ejection port. 
     
     
       9. An M240 variant machine gun comprising:
 an M240 variant machine gun having a receiver with a floor, floor wall, ejection port, top, proximal end, and distal end, the floor wall at the proximal end of the receiver; the receiver also having a cheek rest on the top of the receiver; 
 a butt stock connected to the proximal end of the receiver; the butt stock having a top surface continuous with the check rest on the top of the receiver; 
 a barrel connected to the distal end of the receiver; the barrel removable from the distal end of the receiver; 
 a trigger housing assembly with a grip, the trigger housing assembly attached to the floor of the receiver and positioned between the floor wall and the ejection port; the floor wall having a length of at least two inches; and 
 the ejection port located on the receiver floor and distal to the trigger housing assembly. 
 
     
     
       10. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 9  wherein the butt stock comprises a hydraulic butt stock. 
     
     
       11. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 9  wherein the trigger housing assembly is at least three inches from the proximal end of the receiver. 
     
     
       12. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 11  wherein the trigger housing assembly is at least 3.3 inches from the proximal end of the receiver. 
     
     
       13. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 9  wherein the receiver comprises a unitary first shell and a unitary second shell that form the receiver. 
     
     
       14. An M240 variant machine gun comprising:
 an M240 variant machine gun having a receiver with a floor, top, proximal end, and distal end;
 the top of the receiver having a cheek rest at the proximal end of the top of the receiver with the cheek rest free from obstructions for a user; 
 
 a butt stock connected to the proximal end of the receiver; 
 a barrel connected to the distal end of the receiver, the barrel being part of a removable M240 machine gun barrel assembly; 
 a trigger housing assembly with a grip, the trigger housing assembly attached to the floor of the receiver with a proximal end of the grip at least two inches from the proximal end of the receiver; and 
 an ejection port located on the floor of the receiver and distal to the trigger housing assembly. 
 
     
     
       15. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 14  wherein the housing assembly is attached to the floor of the receiver with a proximal end of the grip at least three inches from the proximal end of the receiver. 
     
     
       16. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 14  wherein the distal end of the receiver further comprises mounting points for a handguard, the handguard having a proximal end and distal end, the proximal end of the handguard corresponding to the mounting points on the distal end of the receiver. 
     
     
       17. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 16  wherein the distal end of the receiver further comprises one or more slots to engage the handguard. 
     
     
       18. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 17  wherein the proximal end of the handguard comprises one or more bosses to engage the one or more slots on the receiver. 
     
     
       19. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 18  wherein the one or more bosses engage the one or more slots on the receiver and the mounting points of the receiver align with attachment points on the handguard. 
     
     
       20. The M240 variant machine gun of  claim 16  wherein the handguard further comprises a pintle mount on the distal end of handguard for attachment of a bipod.
