Abstract

A result packet generator includes a processor for generation and injection of filtered result packets, at least one counter for determining input/output/result packet bandwidth, and a controller for suppressing generation of the filtered result packets when an output and/or result packet bandwidth and/or a percentage of the result packet bandwidth in the output bandwidth exceeds at least one pre-determined threshold, which may be remotely programmable.

1 - 20 . (canceled)

         21 . A system comprising:
 a device configured to:
 identify a length of a service packet;
 determine that the length of the service packet satisfies a threshold; and
 parse the service packet into a first packet and a second packet based on determining that the length of the service packet satisfies the threshold,
 the first packet including first data that indicates that the first packet is a truncated packet, and
 the second packet including second data that indicates that the second packet is a fragmented packet.

         22 . The system of claim 21 , where the service packet is used for troubleshooting of a packet-switched network.

         23 . The system of claim 21 , where the threshold is a maximum size for Ethernet packets.

         24 . The system of claim 21 , where the device is further configured to:
 combine the first packet and the second packet to recreate an original data packet.

         25 . The system of claim 24 , where the device is further configured to:
 generate the service packet by packaging a data packet with additional data.

         26 . The system of claim 21 , where the device is further configured to:
 receive packet data; determine that the packet data matches mask data; and generate the service packet based on determining that the packet data matches the mask data.

         27 . The system of claim 21 , where the service packet includes encapsulated data, of input data, containing a target data pattern.

         28 . The system of claim 27 , where the target data pattern is associated with a network fault.

         29 . A method comprising:
 identifying, by a device, a length of a service packet; determining, by the device, that the length of the service packet satisfies a threshold; and parsing, by the device, the service packet into a first packet and a second packet based on determining that the length of the service packet satisfies the threshold,
 the first packet including first data that indicates that the first packet is a truncated packet, and
 the second packet including second data that indicates that the second packet is a non-truncated packet.

         30 . The method of claim 29 , where the service packet is used for one or more of fault analysis or troubleshooting.

         31 . The method of claim 29 , where the threshold is a maximum size for Ethernet packets.

         32 . The method of claim 29 , further comprising:
 combining the first packet and the second packet to recreate an original data packet.

         33 . The method of claim 29 , further comprising:
 receiving packet data; determining that the packet data matches mask data; and generating the service packet based on determining that the packet data matches the mask data.

         34 . The method of claim 29 , where the service packet includes encapsulated data, of input data, containing a target data pattern.

         35 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions, the instructions comprising:
 one or more instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
 identify a length of a service packet;
 determine that the length of the service packet satisfies a threshold; and
 parse the service packet into a first packet and a second packet based on determining that the length of the service packet satisfies the threshold,
 the first packet including first data that indicates that the first packet is a truncated packet, and
 the second packet including second data that indicates that the second packet is a fragmented packet.

         36 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , where the service packet is used for one or more of analysis or troubleshooting of a packet-switched network.

         37 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , where the instructions further comprise:
 one or more instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
 combine the first packet and the second packet to recreate an original data packet.

         38 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , where the instructions further comprise:
 one or more instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
 generate the service packet by packaging a data packet with additional data.

         39 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , where the instructions further comprise:
 one or more instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
 receive packet data;
 determine that the packet data matches mask data; and
 generate the service packet based on determining that the packet data matches the mask data.

         40 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , where the service packet includes data that contains a target data pattern that is associated with a network fault.
