Abstract
A self desiccating container with a living hinge includes a container body made from a resin bonded sorbent and at least one attachment feature, and a container closure having a closure portion engageable with the container body to close the body and an attachment feature compatible with the attachment feature on the container body for securing the closure to the body, and a living hinge connecting the closure portion to the attachment feature.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A container, comprising:
a container body bottom portion and sidewall consisting of a resin bonded sorbent; a container closure engageable with and configured to selectively close the container body bottom portion and sidewall; and a living hinge free from the resin bonded sorbent and integrally connected with the container body bottom portion and sidewall on one end, and the container closure on another end.
2 . The container of claim 1 characterized in that the container body bottom portion and sidewall are characterized by a first flex modulus, and the living hinge is characterized by a second flex modulus greater than the first flex modulus.
3 . The container of claim 1 characterized in that the container body bottom portion and sidewall comprise high density polyethylene.
4 . The container of claim 1 characterized in that the container body bottom portion and sidewall comprise polypropylene.
5 . The container of claim 3 characterized in that the container body bottom portion and sidewall comprise between about five and about 50% by weight of desiccant.
6 . The container of claim 5 characterized in that the material comprises about 30% by weight of desiccant.
7 . The container of claim 5 characterized in that the desiccant is selected from the group consisting of gel or sieve, clay, calcium oxide, or carbon.
8 . (canceled)
9 . The container of claim 1 characterized in that the resin bonded sorbent comprises a resin bonded desiccant.
10 . (canceled)
11 . A container, comprising:
a container body bottom portion and sidewall consisting of a resin bonded sorbent; a container closure engageable with and configured to selectively close the container body bottom portion and sidewall; an attachment feature engaging the container body bottom portion and sidewall; and a living hinge free from the resin bonded sorbent and integrally connected with at least the container closure and the attachment feature.
12 . The container of claim 11 characterized in that the attachment feature comprises an annular ring.
13 . The container of claim 12 characterized in that the annular ring comprises a plurality of apertures.
14 . The container of claim 13 characterized in that the attachment feature comprises a plurality of projections extendable into the plurality of apertures.
15 . The container of claim 11 characterized in that the attachment feature comprises a tapered region.
16 . The container of claim 1 characterized in that the container is an injection molded container and characterized in that at least the portion comprising the living hinge is molded from a different material than at least a part of a remainder of the container.
17 . The container of claim 16 characterized in that the living hinge comprises polyethylene and at least a portion of the remainder of the container comprises polyethylene with an oxygen absorbing additive.
18 . The container of claim 16 characterized in that the living hinge and the container closure comprise polyethylene and at least a portion of the remainder of the container comprises polyethylene with an oxygen absorbing additive.
