Abstract
Disclosed are self-extinguishing halogen-free polymer compositions comprising oligomers of a 1,3,5-triazine derivative, and processes for their production and for their use as additives to thermoplastic polymers in order to impart a self-extinguishing benefit thereto. The processes for the production of the disclosed oligomers of a 1,3,5-triazine derivative are solvent free processes which result in a halogen free polymer composition which includes the oligomers of the disclosed 1,3,5-triazine derivatives.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A halogen-free polymer comprising oligomers of a 1,3,5-triazine derivative, having the general formula I:
wherein:
X is selected from:
or X is a heterocyclic radical containing in the ring at least one nitrogen atom which radical is linked to the triazine ring through one of such nitrogen atoms,
R 2 is alkyl or cycloalkyl, R 1 is a divalent radical of piperazine of the formula
or R 2 is a divalent radical according to the formula
n is an integer in the range of 8 to 20,
m is an integer in the range of 2 to 6,
p is an integer in the range of 2 to 12, and
X 1 ═OH, NH 2 or X and wherein X and X 1 may be the same or different.
2 . A polymer of formula I according to claim 1 wherein R 1 is a divalent radical of piperazine or a divalent radical of a diamine wherein m is an integer from 2 to 6.
3 . A polymer according to claim 1 wherein R 2 is an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms or is a cycloalkyl radical containing from 6 to 20 carbon atoms.
4 . A polymer according to claim 1 wherein
R 1 =hexamethylenediamine, piperazine or an alkyl-substituted piperazine.
5 . A polymer according to claim 1 wherein X 1 and X are identical and are selected from morpholino, piperidino or piperazino moieties.
6 . A process for the production of halogen-free polymers comprising oligomers, of a 1,3,5-triazine derivative, having the general formula I:
wherein:
X is selected from:
or X is a heterocyclic radical containing in the ring at least one nitrogen atom which radical is linked to the triazine ring through one of such nitrogen atoms,
R 2 is alkyl or cycloalkyl, R 1 is a divalent radical of piperazine of the formula
or R 2 is a divalent radical according to the formula
or R 2 is a radical according to the formula Y
n is an integer in the range of 8 to 20,
m is an integer in the range of 2 to 6,
p is an integer in the range of 2 to 12, and
X 1 ═OH, NH, or X and wherein X and X 1 may be the same or different,
said process comprising the steps of:
reacting the compounds of formula I in which X is a halogen with the compounds of formula HX 1 in the presence of a base, which base is selected from one or more of an excess of HX 1 or at least one alkali metal hydroxide.
7 . A process for the preparation of a self-extinguishing polymeric composition based on polymers according to claim 1 which process comprises the step of:
incorporating a polymer compound of formula I according to claim 1 into a synthetic polymer containing composition.
8 . A self-extinguishing synthetic polymeric composition comprising a thermoplastic polymer and a polymer according to claim 1 .
9 . A composition according to claim 8 in which the thermoplastic polymer is an olefinic polymer or copolymer.
10 . A composition according to claim 8 in which the thermoplastic polymer is a polyester material.
11 . A process according to claim 6 wherein the process is performed in the absence of organic solvents.Cited by (0)
